Yosemite: Travel Tips

Visited in early May 2016.

Hotel: We stayed at Half Dome Village heated tent. No attached shower and toilet. All toiletries and food had to be kept in a bear proof storage locker outside our tents. Definitely an experience of ‘glamping’. Theres not many choices of accommodation within the Yosemite Valley that’s within the mid-range pricing. Lots of camping spots and there’s the fancy Ahwahnee Hotel. Book well in advance if you want a mid range priced accommodation with amenities attached. We booked approximately 9 months ahead but still not advanced enough.

Weather: Weather was great. Warm and sunny,  in the high twenties (degrees Celsius) but cool when near waterfalls, during walks when sheltered by trees and at night. Recommend a light rain jacket over a short sleeved top and three quarter/long pants.

Public Transport: Park shuttle (and we had our rental car). There are day tours that take tourist to Yosemite so that maybe another good way of exploring the park.

Supermarket: There was a general store but everything is really expensive so if you can bring your own food and snacks it works better

Dining: There was a cafeteria and restaurant in Half Dome Village. Food sold at those places were overpriced but it is to be expected for a tourist area.
